全国政协委员、雅昌文化集团董事长万捷先生 recently emphasized the importance of aesthetic education in China, particularly in higher education institutions. Despite the growing recognition of aesthetic education in recent years, there is still a long way to go in terms of its effectiveness. The current situation is that non-art majors at universities do not have access to public art classes as part of their curriculum. Most educational efforts are focused on improving employment rates after graduation, neglecting the significance of art education in students' personal growth.
To enhance students' visual literacy and sensitivity, Chairman Wan Jie suggests incorporating "university art" courses into the basic curriculum for non-art majors. This aims to cultivate students' appreciation for aesthetics and inner cultivation.
As Confucius once said, "Education breeds love and tolerance." Artistic training plays an essential role in shaping individuals' character and cultivating their sense of beauty through subtle influences. Chairman Wan believes that artistic skills should be incorporated into general education as a fundamental subject matter with a focus on evoking students' passion for beauty and inspiring them to appreciate artistic courses. By learning about art, students can develop their moral character and help suppress undesirable habits among peers.
In today's society where knowledge drives development, artistic aptitude will become an essential component of overall talent quality while aesthetics will emerge as a focal point for cultural research. Chairman Wan believes that no tree grows without roots nor water without sources; nurturing aesthetic sensibilities relies on our collective efforts to develop fine arts education.
China's foundation-level aesthetic education will undoubtedly lead the times with its elegance and rich educational achievements, contributing a glorious chapter to world history books on fine arts education.
